"Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use violence to get what they want. That is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion.”  (BMT)

If you mention violence or terrorism to most people, they will recoil with horror and disgust.  Yet the very same people may not look upon abortion as an act of violence.  In her statement above, Mother Teresa asks us to take a long, hard look at ourselves and rethink that position.

ProBikersforLife.jpgThis past Saturday I met three men who took that quote to heart and acted on it.  Dressed in traditional biker gear, they were on their way into Manhattan to pray and hold vigil with the Sisters of Life against abortion.  Their jeans, leather vests, and bandanas spoke of their commitment to life on the road; their tiny footprint lapel pins spoke of their commitment to the sanctity of life.  Tom, Mike, and Lou belong to Pro Bikers for Life, a group dedicated to "preserving human life through counseling and prayerful presence at clinics where the abortions are taking place".  It was touching to see the depth of their love and caring for those yet unborn.

Mother Teresa was well-known for her advice to those who were considering abortion:  "Give the child to me", she said.  While some believe that her reply was too simplistic, she meant every word.  She understood the beauty and fragility of life in the womb, and she understood what God wanted her to do. "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born I dedicated you", God told the prophet (Jeremiah 1:5).  I am sure He spoke those same words to Mother Teresa, and to Tom, Mike, and Lou...may we also hear that call to protect life in all stages.

Bl. Mother Teresa, pray for us!
