"To live without faith, without a patrimony to defend, without a steady struggle for truth, that is not living, but existing." PGF

That statement of Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati's reflects his understanding of life's meaning:  to have faith (in Christ) as the core of one's existence.  That "steady struggle for truth" is what kept Pier Giorgio constantly committed to searching out a way of life which was radical in the sense that it epitomized true Christian values.  He was not afraid of sacrifice, a word which sometimes seems to be devalued in our society today.  He served God by serving others, the way that Christ himself did.

What do we live for?  Or do we merely exist?  Perhaps this is something that we all need to take a good, hard look at.  Is there an underlying current to our lives which feeds our daily actions?  Is this current based on monetary gain, on winning the admiration of others, or is it firmly rooted in our Christian faith?  Do we spend much of our day on ourselves and on wasteful pursuits?  Today, let's begin with a prayer that we make Christ the center of our being and look for ways to live out our faith.  Whether that's volunteering some time for a worthy cause, joining an organization dedicated to social justice, or simply lending a compassionate ear to a friend, we can all make a difference...

Bl. Pier Giorgio, pray for us!
