“Leave all to Him; all you need do is pray, pray!”  (St. Elizabeth Ann Seton)

Sometimes we may think that the Saints state the obvious when we are looking for something profound and deep, but even their simplest statements are chock full of the truth.  When we are worried about an issue, we may say that we leave all to God, but for the most part we are probably fairly impatient with ourselves, with our lives and with God, too.  I will leave it to another more qualified than I to expand on Mother Seton’s statement:

“Above all, trust in the slow work of God.  We are quite naturally impatient in everything to reach the end without delay. We would like to skip the intermediate stages.  We are impatient of being on the way to something unknown, something new.  And yet it is the law of all progress that it is made by passing through some stages of instability-- and that it may take a very long time.
And so I think it is with you; your ideas mature gradually-- let them grow; let them shape themselves, without undo haste. Don't try to force them on, as though you could be today what time (that is to say, grace and circumstances acting on your own good will) will make of you tomorrow.
Only God can say what this new spirit gradually forming within you will be.  Give our Lord the benefit of believing that his hand is leading you, and accept the anxiety of feeling yourself in suspense and incomplete.”  Teilhard de Chardin

Today, let’s offer our lives and our situations up to God once again, truly believing that He is leading us in the details of our day.  Let us be open to accepting what comes, knowing that we are being formed constantly in His image; and let us never miss the opportunity to “pray, pray!”
