This month we look at the life of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton - convert to Roman Catholicism; wife; mother; widow; teacher; foundress of the American Sisters of Charity - she is the first person born in the United States to be canonized a Saint.  The unique qualities of her life's experience make her a wonderful Saint for so many - religious and lay people, rich or poor.

St.ElizabethAnnSeton.jpgShe was born two years before the American Revolution into a socially affluent family, married well but lost her husband and her wealth by the time she was 30.  Alone with five children to raise, she fully embraced the Catholic faith and, along with it, God's will for her life.

She referred to the will of God as "The Will", and it became a driving force for her existence.   She told the Sisters of Charity:  The first end I propose in our daily work is to do the will of God; secondly, to do it in the manner He wills it; and thirdly, to do it because it is His will."

It is important for every human being who calls Christ their Savior to follow St. Elizabeth's advice, and it is one of the most rewarding challenges of any vocation.  This month, may we be motivated to seek "The Will" in our own lives and give "our utmost for His highest" (Oswald Chambers).

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, pray for us!
