"Being children of God transforms us into something that goes far beyond people who merely put up with each other.  Listen to what the Lord says:  'Vos autem dixi amicos' (I have called you friends)!  We are friends who, like him, give our lives for each other, when heroism is needed and throughout our ordinary lives." (St. Josemaria Escrivá)

Acquaintances come and go, but friends are from the heart.  And if a friendship is based on Christ it goes even deeper, touching the soul as well. Sometimes as friends we let each other down.  We disappoint one another and even hurt one another.  But if the friendship is grounded in Christ we can reflect on this scripture passage:

"This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us."  (1 John 4:10-12)   Josemaria Escrivá taught that our relationships are transformed in Christ.  In our friendships, God's love is made complete; and even in our disappointments that love is evident in its forgiveness.

Our connection to the Body of Christ literally flows from the Blood of Christ.   Because of this our friendships should manifest God to the world.  Thank God for your friends, and allow them to bless your life.

St. Josemaria Escrivá, pray for us!
