"Conscious of our duties, can we let a whole day go past without remembering we have a soul?  In our daily meditation, we have always to put things right lest we depart from the way."  (St. Josemaria Escrivá)

It's actually all too easy to forget we have a soul sometimes.  It's easy to give in to the demands of our bodies - to feel and remember only the physical.  We can get caught up in the daily grind of meeting deadlines at work, scheduling our children's activities, running errands, commuting, feeling tired, hungry, out of sorts, etc.; and if we don't keep a spiritual mindset we risk losing our focus.

But St. Josemaria Escrivá tells us just the opposite should be true: that when we are really mindful of our duties we should naturally be a prayerful people.  Our goal should be making our lives a constant prayer - a continual offering of ourselves and our actions up to God.  He makes the connection between our tasks - our daily activities - and our daily meditation.  If we can go through an entire day without prayer, then our spiritual lives need a little tune-up.

Luckily, that's what Lent is for!  It's a time to re-prioritize, to bring our relationship with God to the forefront.  We should all make time for daily meditation where we can "put things right" with God, literally talk things out with Him.

God wants to be involved in our every day.  Jesus told us: "Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?  Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.  And even the hairs of your head are all counted." (Matthew 10:29-30)  If God knows when a sparrow falls and the number of hairs on your head, then He is a God of details.  This Lent, don't be afraid to bring Him the details of your day.  Remember you have a soul!

St. Josemaria Escrivá, pray for us!
