"Heralds of the Gospel are needed, who are experts in humanity, who know the depths of the heart of man in today's world, who share his joys and hopes, his concern and his sadness, and who at the same time are contemplatives, people in love with God.  For this, new saints are needed.  We must beg God to increase the spirit of sanctity in the Church and to send us saints to evangelize today's world."  (Extraordinary Synod of Bishops)

St. Josemaria Escrivá lived this same premise: that to be a saint one needed to embrace both their humanity and their call to holiness completely.  The two, in fact, complement each other perfectly.  In our humanness we feel joy, heartache, love, anger, sympathy, sorrow, loneliness – emotions which God endowed us with, emotions which we can use to connect our lives to Him.  We do this by seeking to recognize the sacred in everything we do:  interacting with our family and friends, living out our vocation, doing our best at work, connecting with the Body of Christ around the world, and, of course, worshiping the one true God.

If we really long to see God’s face, we need to find it in those He puts in our path.   Was I cordial to the coffee shop attendant?  Did I help out a co-worker in a bind?  Can I forgive a family member who I am angry with?  It’s the small steps we take each day which bring us either closer to the Kingdom of God or take us one step further away.

St. Josemaria Escrivá, Christ helped you to “see” the vision of a world of saints, living for Him.  May we, in the steps we take each day, bring that vision to fruition by recognizing our Savior wherever our journey takes us in this world.  Amen!

St. Josemaria Escrivá, please continue to pray for us!
