Behold this Heart which has loved men so much that It spared no sacrifice, not even death and annihilation, in order to testify to them Its love…If they would answer love for love, I would look upon all I have done for them as little, and I would, if that were possible, do still more…” (from Christ’s revelation to St. Margaret Mary)

Love demands a return of love”; and in His revelation to St. Margaret Mary, Jesus asks us for that return.  But how do we give a return of love to God, to our Savior?  Perhaps we love Christ the most when we love those whom He created, and whom He died for.  When we show in the little things of our day that we truly do love one another as much as we love ourselves, then we show God how much we love Him, too.

The expert in the law inquired of Jesus: “Who is my neighbor?”  (Luke 10:29).    All of us are sometimes guilty of asking that same question in our hearts when we want to justify our own behavior.  Are my co-workers my neighbor?  Should I make the coffee today?  Shuld I ask if an overworked office-mate needs some help?  Can I try to turn a negative conversation around?  Is the gas station attendant my neighbor?  Can I make his day a little brighter with a kind word and a smile?  What about the receptionist we see to make an appointment, the bus driver, the cashier in the supermarket?  How can we show each of them how much they matter to God, even if they don’t respond in kind?

Small things on earth, perhaps, but great in eternity!  Today, let’s return God’s love, even at the cost of being unloved by others.  Answer love for Christ's love!

St. Margaret Mary, pray for us!
