"In the evening He gave me to understand how fleeting all earthly things are, and how everything that appears great disappears like smoke, and does not give the soul freedom, but weariness.  Happy the soul that understands these things and with only one foot touches the earth." (Diary, Notebook 3)

Love that thought!  To only touch the earth with one foot - to be light and free and reaching up to God!  It reminds me of a quote I heard recently which is attributed to G.K. Chesterson:  "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly."  We need to balance the things of earth against the things of God.  And if you think of it, life is somewhat of a balancing act, like standing precariously on tiptoe to reach the sky.

What puts us out of balance?  Worry, for one thing.  How many times have we worn ourselves out worrying about something which either resolves itself, or has no real resolution?  Some dilemmas in this world have no solution, and there is much suffering that we cannot account for.

But St. Faustina reminds us that these things do not last forever, and Heaven does!  If we set our hearts on the things of Heaven when concerned about the things of earth, we can attain that balance.   On this St. Faustina is in agreement with another Saint, Julian of Norwich, who once said:

"All shall be well,

and all shall be well,

and all manner of things shall be well."

St. Maria Faustina, pray for us!
