"The mercy of the Lord I will sing forever, before all the people I will sing it.  For it is God's greatest attribute and for us an unending miracle...O Sinner, you must not doubt or despair, but trust in mercy, for you also can become holy." (Diary)

If the object of this blog is to learn from the wisdom of the Saints, then St. Maria Faustina's words are the path to holiness.  "Trust in mercy", she tells us, in order to become holy.

When we depend upon ourselves we know that, try as we might, we sin.  Jesus tells us our anger can be sinful: "You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.'  But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, 'You good-for-nothing' is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell."  (Matthew 5:21-22); and even our thoughts:  "You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.' But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart."  (Matthew 5:27-28)

But St. Maria Faustina trusted in a merciful God, who, in turn, calls us to be merciful to others:  "For judgment will be without mercy to anyone who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment"  (James 2:13).   What beautiful words!  If we are merciful, then mercy triumphs over judgment!  Surely that is what we all need to hear.

Is there someone in your life who needs your mercy?  Who needs forgiveness and understanding, even if it is undeserved?  This is what God calls us to, and this is the sure path to holiness.

St. Maria Faustina, pray for us!
