This month we look to the life of Bl. Mother Teresa of Calcutta for our inspiration.  As a spouse of Christ, she fulfilled the words of Proverbs about the ideal wife:  "She reaches out her hands to the poor, and extends her arms to the needy...She opens her mouth in wisdom, and on her tongue is kindly counsel.  She watches the conduct of her household, and eats not her food in idleness...Charm is deceptive and beauty fleeting; but the woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." (Proverbs 31:20, 26-27, 30)

"Something Beautiful for God" is the name of a book about Mother Teresa which comes from a quote of hers:  "What I can do, you cannot.  What you can do, I cannot.  Together we can do something beautiful for God."  It is quite a fitting title, because her life was all about true beauty.

Bl.MotherTeresa1.jpgWe all know how beauty is measured in our society today.  We picture dreamy eyes, graceful hands, pouty lips.  But hers was a beauty even more sublime:  eyes which envisioned the dream of building a civilization of love, grace-filled hands which did the work of God, lips softened by prayer.  Her life was all about fulfilling the will of her Lord, and so reflected a divine beauty.

As we begin this month, let us ask Bl. Mother Teresa to help us find the true beauty in others, the beauty with which their Creator endowed them.  She saw the dignity and worth of every human being; may we do the same.

Bl. Mother Teresa, pray for us!
